Multi Award Winner LAUREL JUDD, is a renown New Zealand knitwear designer and fibre artist working from her home studio in Taradale, Hawkes Bay.
What began for Laurel as a hobby in the seventies soon became a life long passion. No patterns necessary and with a passion for colour it wasn’t long before Laurel left the teaching profession and became a full time knitwear designer, creating special pieces for retail outlets and galleries.
Laurel’s garments are now available through her home retail studio and enquiries are most welcome.
Laurel’s enthusiasm and her teaching background led her to become a national and international Judge and Tutor in the fields of machine knitting, textile arts and design.
Proud to be New Zealand made
Laurel’s hobby and profound passion is entering Fashion and Fibre Awards, which gives her the impetus to explore new techniques and push boundaries. These attributes give her the drive to always go that little bit further in designing and creating something truly unique and special.
“most designers purchase fabric, design a garment and have it manufactured – but for me it is the total creative process as I not only design and make the garment myself but design and make the fabric as well! How lucky is that!”
Laurel just loves seeing a garment she has designed and spent months making, coming to life on the catwalk. She always creates the whole look and her entries have had considerable successes over the years.
